We are on a hillside and our home has shifted causing all of the original beams that support our floor joists to become crooked.
There was one pier support that had been updated with a collar tie and a new pier top at some point in the past... and the new pier top that was added actually snapped off and had shifted to the edge of the original pier. I bought an SJ4 and purlin splicer for 4x4 to repair it.
Removed the old collar tie top with a jackhammer, added a bunch of 1/2 rebar sunk into the old pier about 6" and glued in with Sika epoxy. I then surrounded the area with a form and poured 10 bags of concrete.
The SJ4 is really easy to use, there is no actual bearing at the base, but for this use that doesn't really matter (there is no need to have a large lifting capacity with these). I do wish that the holes in the baseplate were a bit larger (3/8 or 1/4). But the TapCon screws should be fine as there really shouldn't be any lateral force on the base plate. The Splicer was equally easy to use. Really effortless repair.
